In this post, I’ll share the best things to do and see in Dockyard, Bermuda, as well as some tips that cruisers will want to know. Rather than heading left, if you like much calmer water, you’ll probably enjoy Baby Beach or Horseshoe Bay Cove, to the right when you get to the beach. The easiest way, in my opinion, is to use the mini-bus/shuttle to get to Horseshoe Beach, or even one of the other, perhaps quieter, beautiful Bermuda beaches that are close by.
Tip# 6: You Can Come and Go From the Cruise Ship As You Please
Located on the northwest tip of Bermuda on Ireland Island, the Dockyard currently has nine restaurants and food vendors and over 30 retail stores, along with various kiosks and attractions. How to get to Horseshoe Bay from Dockyard
Pick up a few water bottles and snacks to add to a collapsible cooler, as the drinks are highly priced at the beaches. Among these architectural treasures stands St. Peter’s Church, a living relic and the oldest Anglican church in continuous use beyond the British Isles. Its serene interior and ancient graveyard are testaments to centuries of history.

Located in St. George’s parish, Tobacco Bay Beach is considered to be one of the best Bermuda Beaches for snorkeling. While Tobacco Bay is known for it’s shallow and clear waters, perfect for seeing marine life, how Tobacco Beach got it’s name is interesting part of Bermuda’s history. If you want another fun way to learn about the underwater world surrounding Bermuda, head to the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute (BUEI) in Hamilton, Bermuda’s capital city. The must-see Bermuda museum for many visitors is the National Museum of Bermuda, located in the Royal Naval Dockyard, since it teaches you more about the history of the island. You can visit Bermuda without a passport on a closed-loop sailing (one that begins and ends in the same U.S. port).
The caves, full of beautiful stalactites, stalagmites, and clear pools of water, were formed when sea levels were much lower and have since become submerged. They were discovered in 1905 by two boys searching for a lost cricket ball and were subsequently opened as a tourist attraction by the property owner at the time. If you’re cruising on NCL, take advantage of the complementary ferry from the cruise port to St. George, on the other side of Bermuda. It’s a great, free option, especially with kids and it provides amazing views of the coastline without booking and paying for a boat tour. The Railways Trail covers 18 miles and extends nearly the entire length of Bermuda. If you’re visiting Bermuda on a cruise, you won’t have time to hike the whole thing, but you’ll be able to hike some of it if you so desire since access points are located all over the island.
About Horseshoe Beach
The four-masted schooner Constellation was a 192-foot-long wooden-hulled cargo vessel. Bound for New York from Venezuela in 1943, the ship began to take on water close to Bermuda. The unlucky ship hit the same reef as the Montana (or possibly the Montana herself!) as it approached Bermuda for repairs. Its cargo, including building materials, ampules of morphine, and 700 cases of Scotch lay scattered on the sea floor. First thing we did was check out the National Museum of Bermuda (formerly known as Bermuda Maritime Museum) which was right across from the ship.
